The first stage of Ethereum’s two-stage merge, codenamed Bellatrix, took place on September 6th. The second stage, known as Paris, is set to occur between September 10th and 20th. The merge will be fully complete once Paris is done.

After the merge, the Ethereum 2.0 network will have converted from using Proof of Work (PoW) to Proof of Stake (PoS) as its only consensus mechanism. The advance will result in an amazing 99.5% energy savings.

In advance of this upgrade, Ethereum co-creator Vitalik Buterin sat down with the CEO of Coinbase, Brian Armstrong for a chat about decentralization, the blockchain, and the future of crypto.
